2 Alarm Structure Fire In Keyser
Sat. Jul 4th 2009
Main Street, Keyser, WV - Former Comcast / Tele-Media Offices w/ Apartments.
While an Engine and brush unit from Keyser FD along with a brush unit from McCoole, Md conducted the annual fourth of July fireworks display on a remote field at Potomac State College, Chief 57 ( Keyser EMS ) reported a working building fire in the alley behind Main Street beside Reeds Drugstore.
Mineral County 911 Center dispatched the Working Business Alarm on Box 33-1 at 2129hrs. for a fire at the Comcast Cable Offices on Main Street.
Initial Alarm included:
Engine 33, Truck 33 - Keyser, WV
Engine 39 - Fountain, WV for RIT
Engine 23 - McCoole, MD
Engine Tanker 38 - New Creek, WV
Ambulance 57 - Keyser EMS
Upon arrival LT.33-6 assumed command and requested a second alarm.
Engine Tanker 22 - Potomac of Westernport, MD
Truck 24 - Tri-Towns of Piedmont, WV
Engine Tanker 44 - Burlington, WV
Engine 36 - Bloomington, MD to stand-by at Keyser station #1
Engine 33 took a hydrant at Main & Center street and laid their 5" LDH up the alley to the rear of the building and made a attack on the bulk of the exterior fire.
Engine Rescue 23 came north on Main Street and took up a location north of the fire building. Crews from ER 23 pulled two 1.75" attack lines and made entry to the second floor apartments to conduct a search. The building was empty at the time of the fire, but earlier arrive Keyser City PD units discovered the front apartment entrance door open.
Engine/Tanker 38 responded with 5 at 21:35, and arrived on scene at 21:40. Engine Tanker 38 took the hydrant at the corner of Main and Piedmont Streets and laid 5.00" north to setup behind ER 23. ET38 then fed a supply line to ER23 and the crew from ET38 pulled an additional 1.75" attack line from their rig to the second floor. Air/Light 38 responded with 5 at 21:36 and arrived at 21:41. New Creek crews also attempted to vent the roof, but were pulled back by command due to deteriorating conditions.
Crews using Truck 33 made the roof and was able to make an vent opening in the roof, but the fire already had hold of the attic area. Truck 24 took up position in the alley with Engine 33.
Due to the fire load in the attic and extension into the first floor offices, command pulled all units from the building and changed to a exterior attack.
Medic 38-71 was also requested to respond later in the incident.
