New Creek EMS Handles Two Incidents With Elk District
Sat. Aug 30th 2008
At approximately 14:05 hrs, New Creek was dispatched for a medic and transport unit to assist Elk District Ambulance with a ATV accident with injuries. Paramedic 38-70 responded with 3 personnel shortly after. While responding, Mineral County 911 notified the unit that they were receiving reports of a motorcycle accident on the Allegheny Front, of Rt 50. Paramedic 38-70 at that time was only half way up the mountain and to that point had not found any accident. Just south of Burgess Hollow Road, the unit came across several people waving along the road. The crew found 1 motorcycle over the embankment, driver was awake and standing with numerous lacerations.
Assistant Chief 38 (on board M 38-70) assumed the Rt 50 command, and requested that a second transport unit from New Creek to respond to the first incident, since M 38-70 was now committed to the motorcycle accident. Paramedic 38-71 responded with 3 to the ATV accident.
Investigation into the motorcycle accident indicated that the accident was possibly a "hit and run". The driver of the motorcycle denied any treatment or transport, but due to the patient's behavior, the crew could not leave. It was later found out that, his behavior was due to a previous medical incident, therefore he was in his normal mindset.
Paramedic 38-71 arrived on the scene and assisted BLS crews with patient care of the ATV accident. The patient was then transferred to MSP Trooper 5 for air flight to the hospital.
